Sizing depends on the amount of time the chlorinator is operated. Sizing for the low number in the description assumes an average daily chlorination period of 6 hours (that is, 4 hours daily in cool weather and 8 hours daily in hot weather). If the daily operation period is increased to 12 hours in hot weather, the pool size rating of the chlorinator will be increased by 50% or the high end indicated in the description.
The LM-2 Chlorinator is stylish in design and
uncomplicated in operation. Its automatic self-cleaning feature will save
time and money by eliminating accidental damage caused when cleaning the
electrodes. The LM-2 also removes the risks involved when using dangerous
acid. Other innovative and practical features include:

Total Alkalinity (TA) Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer) Salt Concentration: A salt concentration of 4000 ppm
should be maintained for the correct operation of the chlorinator.
Initial set up of the pool requires 35 pounds of salt per 1000 gallons
of water, to reach 4000 ppm. The add salt light will come on at
approximately 3300 ppm. You should
always check the salt concentration on an existing pool before adding
salt. Existing water may already contain some salt. CORRECT pH At a pH of around 7.2,
approximately 80% of the sanitizer being produced by the chlorinator is
hypochlorous acid, or STRONG SANITIZER and about 20% is hypochlorite
ions, or WEAK SANITIZER To have greater
sanitizing power, the pH should be a lower value, rather than a higher
value. At a pH of around 8.0, the situation is reversed, and approximately 80% of the sanitizer being produced by the chlorinator is hypochlorite ions, or WEAK SANITIZER and approximately 20% of the sanitizer being produced by the chlorinator is hypochlorous acid, or STRONG SANITIZER. |
||||
If an existing pool has been sanitized using liquid chlorine, there may be a residue of liquid chlorine left in the pool. Because liquid chlorine is salt (sodium chloride) that is exactly what the salt water chlorinator uses. It is recommended to test your water before adding salt.
These salt which is to be added to the pool should be high purity, food grade salt. It should not contain iodine or any other metals. The use of "Rock" or "Course" or "Solar" salt is recommended because it dissolves faster. The use of 'pellets" works. Salt is obtainable from manufacturers, wholesalers of salt or large building supply retailers.
