TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON THE DOME
MATERIAL
We have cut no corners in trying to find the absolute best material available for the Superspan dome. It's high resistance to fading, abrasion, and tearing ensures long lasting good looks. The material has been specially treated to withstand the effects of sun, wind, and subfreezing weather.

The material is an 18oz. per sq. yd. coated vinyl which means that there are two layers of PVC sandwiched over a fabric base. The material's great strength lies in this base fabric, a polyester scrim that is nearly impossible to tear by ordinary means. The PVC film coating is formulated with special plasticizers that produce a high resistance to ultraviolet radiation deterioration and heat related breakdown. Fungicides are incorporated and are released slowly at the film surface to provide continuous protection against most molds and mildews over the fabric's life. |
In order to ensure that the Superspan dome will coordinate with nearly any color scheme, we offer nineteen different colors. Standard colors for the dome are light blue, tan and white. Colors currently available include:
| Standard Colors | Custom Colors | ||
| Light Blue | Brown | Red | Royal Blue |
| White | Light Grey | Burgundy | Forest Green |
| Tan | Dark Grey | Lavender | Purple |
| Avocado | Light Green | Navy | |
| Yellow | Aqua | ||
| Orange | Black |
We no longer offer clear in the superspan dome. The colored materials are far superior in quality and longevity.
Any of the lighter colors will allow ample light into the dome.
One or two colors for the roof along with white sidewalls is the standard configuration.

| ENTRANCE OPTIONS
For most applications, the zippered entry is the easiest, least expensive option. It works just like a regular zipper with the zipper tab at the top pulled down to open the zipper, and then closing it after you've passed through. There's no need to hurry through, the zipper could even be left open without causing a deflation problem. Any number of zippered entries can be placed in the dome. Zippers that wear out are easily replaced by snapping a new zipper into the zipper panel. A special 'L-shaped' zipper entry is available for easier access for the handicapped.

| ANCHORING SYSTEM The Superspan dome uses a cable tie-down anchoring system that is engineered to provide the strength of a permanent installation while making it easy remove the dome when the cold weather ends. This system does not have the added bulk, weight, and inconvenience of a waterbag. Ask anyone who has struggled with a waterbag system when it's time to store the dome and you'll know what we mean.

The cable at the heart of the system is enclosed in a double-thick hem at the base of the sidewall. The continuous steel cable has been joined at the ends and is coated in plastic to prevent rust and corrosion. The cable attaches to the anchors that are placed in your concrete deck every 18"-24". The anchors are 1/2" x 1 1/2" zinc coated steel. They are a "drop in" anchor that are seated by tapping them in with a special tool provided with each installation. The 3/8" open turned eyebolts, also zinc coated steel, are screwed into the anchors. After the season is over the eyebolts are removed and replaced with stainless steel inserts that will keep debris out of the anchor holes over the summer. |
|
Air is kept in the dome by the use of an air skirt that's attached to the cable hem at the base of the wall. The air skirt lies on the deck and forms a very effective air trap in even the worst of weather. Pools without concrete decks can sometimes be accommodated. A wood deck presents the potential problem of not achieving a good air seal because of air escaping through the cracks in the deck. We have found that by placing indoor-outdoor carpeting down on the deck will usually prevent any air leakage. The anchoring system also can be placed on smooth dirt or grass as long as the entire area is level. Stakes are then used instead of the anchors. |

INFLATION SYSTEM INFORMATION
| The Superspan dome is supported entirely by air. The small pressure difference between inside and outside air that reliably supports the Superspan dome is supplied and maintained by an inflation system. Each blower is controlled by a Triac type solid state variable speed AC motor control. This type is used to prolong the life of the blower unit. The housing is made of a durable fiberglass. The air intakes feature washable filter units. |
|
|
|
Upon installation of the dome, the blower is placed underneath the sidewall of the dome, with the sidewall resting upon the saddle in the blower. The blower can be placed wherever it is convenient, but will be easiest when placed in the middle of a corner of the dome. The blower is powered by a regular household 115V circuit. Full load amperage on one blower is 4.2. Aquaflex requires that the blower be plugged into a GFI circuit for safety. The blower motor is rated at 1/4 HP. It is recommended that domes greater than 2000 square feet in area have two blowers. This is especially helpful for rapid initial inflation and resistance to high winds. Two blowers are mandatory for domes larger than 2200 square feet. |
Two other blower models are available for special situations. Both models have the same housing as the standard blower but come with different motors. For an extremely small dome less than 700 square feet, we suggest a 1/6 HP model that is a bit less powerful than the standard 1/4 HP model. This model uses a bit less power and decreases the possibility of over inflation on a small dome.
Also available is a 1/4 HP model which runs on a 220V circuit. This model can be used overseas or in the USA if lower amperage is desired. It uses a bit less power than the regular model and comes with a bare cord onto which any plug can be attached.
All blowers come with a three year manufacturer warranty.

Aquaflex does not offer heated blower units. In even the coldest areas of the country most people find that the air inside the dome will usually remain within ten or fifteen degrees of the water temperature and see no need for additional heat. However, if you would like a warm air source, a forced air furnace installed by an HVAC contractor can be useful in reducing condensation inside the dome. Heat from the natural gas furnace is ducted under the dome wall.
